15 tips to help you glow this Winter

Winter is on its way but that doesn’t mean that you can’t keep your radiant summer skin.  Using the right products means that you can beat the cold, dry weather and keep that summer glow through the cold months too.  We’ve put together 15 great tips to keep your skin in tip-top condition on the coldest of days.

1 Use a liquid foundation

Liquid foundations will keep your skin looking moisturized while giving great coverage.  If you are using powder foundations they can highlight any dry or flaky skin you may have in the winter months.  If you want a light and dewy look just buy a lighter foundation and place it strategically on your nose, forehead, chin and cheekbones.

2 Soft silky Shea butter.

Lotions and creams are the way to go in winter but not all creams are created equal.  Shea butter is one of the best products out there – anti-aging and anti-inflammatory it also helps to prevent redness and dry skin by deeply penetrating the skin.

3 Use an exfoliating peel.

An exfoliating peel works by removing dead skin cells and is effective if you have a lower skin cell turnover.  The peel will speed up skin renewal and give you a more radiant look, plus the removal of dead skin cells gives your moisturizer a better chance of hydrating your skin.

4 Lips Scrubs

Lips also suffer when the weather gets cold and they need a little TLC to be kept in tip-top condition.  A lip scrub gently removes dead skin cells from the lips and leaves them hydrated and smooth.

5 Be generous with lip balm.

If you go outside in the cold you are likely to end up with chapped lips and while you may not be able to avoid this, you can keep it under control by applying plenty of strong lip balm.  Don’t be afraid to use lashings of the product and keep it topped up throughout the day.

6 Invest in a good eye cream.

Eye creams are not just for winter and you should be using it throughout the year, however, in winter it becomes much more vital.  The skin around our eyes is delicate and fragile and needs to be kept hydrated especially when the weather is cold.

7 Introduce good fats into your diet

For a complexion that glows and looks youthful, you need the right kinds of fats in your diet.  Choose peanut butter, avocado, olive oil, rich fruits and anything with omega oils to keep your skin moist and youthful.

8 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Keeping the skin hydrated makes it is thicker and more elastic and the most effective way of doing this is to drink water – and lots of it!  Although we tend to be more focused on hydration in the warmer months it is essential to maintain this all year around.  Make sure you keep some water around all the time and drink it often throughout the day.

9 Fill up on collagen.

Collagen supplements give you extra protein and are great for bones, joints and your gut but they also work miracles for your skin.  Collagen decreases naturally with age so adding it to your diet is essential.  You can take it in juices or smoothies but you can also find it in pills or apply it directly to your skin in a face mask.  You will notice the difference to the natural glow of your complexion.

10 Avoid hot showers

Very hot water will dry out your skin and strip the natural oils it relies on to keep looking good.  Try using lukewarm water and making sure that you moisturize as soon as you can after you shower.

11 Choose your moisturizer carefully

An oil-based moisturizer is far more effective than a water-based one particularly when the weather is cold.  The oils help soothe the skin and keep the moisture in.  When looking at moisturizers try to go for natural products, avoiding those containing synthetic ingredients like petroleum-based creams.

12 Add glow with tanning lotion.

Tanning lotions are not just for summer – in winter they can be used to add a bit of glow to otherwise pale or fair skin.  It works wonders for your complexion and gives you a more youthful, healthy look.

13 Check your cleanser

Cleansers are essential if we are to get rid of all the dirt we accumulate in our skin throughout the day.  However, certain ingredients can dry out the skin.  Ensure that your cleanser contains things like lanolin and glycerin and avoid anything containing salicylic or glycolic acid.  After using the cleanser always make sure you use a good quality moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated and soft.

14 Super-versatile coconut oil

Coconut oil is one of the most versatile products on the market and not only that, it is inexpensive too!  It is a one-size-fits-all product and is good for use on lips, the skin around, your eyes, as a night cream, you can even put it on your hair as a conditioner or use it when shaving.  The result is skin that glows.

15 Grab some Aloe Vera.

Aloe Vera is one of nature’s best exfoliators so if you suffer from dry skin on your face or scalp using Aloe Vera will help prevent flakes and keep your scalp and skin in great condition.
